Belhurst Estate Winery: How to Pair the Perfect Wine

An article by Belhurst Estate Winery.

The beautiful thing about the holidays is that most people have a vision of what makes the holiday season so special for them.  No matter what your holiday dreams include, Belhurst Estate Winery has a wine to pair perfectly with your holiday memories.

The special Historic Wine Collection by Belhurst Winery was developed “to complement an array of tastes, while nodding to the centuries-old history of Belhurst Castle,” says Belhurst Wine Shop Manager Kristine Fiorilla.

If your holiday traditions include a prime rib feast, then consider pairing your meal with Belhurst’s Red, named after the Squire of Belhurst, Cornelius J. “Red” Dwyer, who owned the Castle in the early 1930s and gave it the reputation as the “restaurant in a castle.”

Dwyer was also responsible for bringing illegal drinking and gambling to Belhurst, until he was told to stop or be stopped, which he did.  Instead, he continued to entertain visitors with his magnetic personality and nationally acclaimed cuisine.

Belhurst’s beautiful Red is a lively wine with a velvety texture and is the echo of a handshake from the squire himself.  The unique blend of Baco Noir and Malbec grapes make this the perfect wine to pair with a beef dinner or for curling up in front of the fire on a crisp holiday evening.

Neptune semi-dry white wine is sure to be a crowd pleaser.  This wine derives its name from the hand-laid tile work that surrounds the main fireplace of Belhurst Castle.  A blend featuring Chardonnay, Riesling, and Gewurztraminer, this wine pairs perfectly with a turkey dinner and a group of friends.

If a seafood feast is your family tradition, Belhurst’s Golden Pheasant wine is the perfect match.  Inspired by Belhurst’s creator, Mrs. Carrie Harron Collins, who was known, near and far, for her prized Japanese Golden Pheasants, this delicate blend of Seyval Blanc and Chardonnay is a nod to its namesake.  Depictions of the Golden Pheasants are also woven into the décor across the resort, as well as on the china in Edgar's Fine Dining Restaurant.

Does your family enjoy throwing a holiday cocktail party?  Carrie Blush, named after the creator of Belhurst Castle, offers sophisticated flavor that pairs perfectly with a variety of hors d'oeuvres.  Notes of pomegranate and cranberry will raise holiday spirits.

If you are the type of person who embodies the mantra of dessert first, then White Knight may be the right wine choice for you.  Every castle needs a Knight, and ours is a sweet white blend of Vignoles and Valvin Muscat grapes, which makes it a great complement to fruit salads and desserts.  Enjoy this wine fireside while relaxing after a big holiday.

According to Belhurst’s Wine Shop Manager, this special collection of wines was created with the same extraordinary care as the historic Belhurst Castle.  All of the custom blends honor the Castle’s beautiful story.
